Taro Cake

Pan fried taro cake with oyster sauce and Srirachi chili

Underrated and overlooked by most dim sum aficionados compared to its more popular cousin- the turnip/radish cake- the taro cake is just as delicious, more nutritious, and undeniably more exotic and impressive. Taro is in season right now, selling around $0.50 per pound in most Asian groceries and produce purveyors, so take advantage of the abundance and freshness of this root to experiment.

Taro cakes are usually pan fried and accompanied with oyster sauce in Chinese dim sum restaurants, but when they are homemade, do try them as is -unfried. Try them with hoisin sauce and Srirachi if you want a tangy kick.
